Nature keeps inequality for a purpose

“The male Y chromosome comes from the female X only. X chromosome is the complete carrier.”

This week’s Youth Express presents the gist of the conversation between Vivek Sir and youngsters on our Whatsapp group. This discussion busts the myths that the male sex chromosome Y is superior to the female sex chromosome X and brought out important ideas which need to be adopted by today’s society. This Youth Express would not have been possible without Vivek Sir, who time and again, keeps challenging the youngsters to brainstorm on subjects that are crucial yet rarely found to be discussed at large. We thank Gunjan Patel for this compilation  Discussion started when Umesh Sir sent a text on Vedic System of determining gotras as based on the X and Y chromosome functionality

.

Vivek Sir: The X chromosome is original. Y is one legged X. The male Y chromosome comes from the female X only. X chromosome is the complete carrier.

Umesh Gaud: This is an amazing idea. But, if we say Y to be a one-legged X, we can equally say X to be a two-legged Y.

Vivek Sir: Only X can produce a Y. Y cannot produce X till it has an extra something! That extra something is with X. If we say X is two legged Y, it only means Y has one leg. Two legged Y itself means X has an extra leg. One can draw a triangle out of a circle by removing something. But we need a lot more to create a circle out of triangle.

Bhavini Dubey: पर से अपर स्वत: सिद्ध हो जाता है परंतु अपर से पर की सिद्धि संभावित रहती है, निश्चित नहीं।

VivekSir: Bhavini is right.

Umesh Gaud: I also have another view. X and Y, i.e. female and male both are outcomes of Prakriti. So, no one is superior to other. Mother Nature is the only creator and great. The Ulitmate creator is the Intelligent Energy.

Vivek Sir: Strangely males have XY chromosomes. They carry the mother X chromosome too. So X is the mother chromosome. Moreover, why is that we always refer anything extra-ordinary to have an “X-factor”? May be because Y doesn’t represent extra-ordinary. Y questions everything whereas X does the Xtra job.

Bhavini Dubey: The context is not of superiority. As it is Y cannot be superior to X. Scientific researchers have hinted towards a hypothesis that after duration of time, because of less functional genes in Y chromosome, it will near extinction. Y has only 63 active genes and 58 million base pairs whereas X has 804 active genes and 156 million base pairs. Clearly, Y chromosome is X chromosome’s baby.

Umesh Gaud: If male has XY and female has only X this also shows that male is having wider scope and is more complete.

Bhavini Dubey: This is scientifically not true. Y has lesser number of active genes while X has more number of active genes.

Vivek Sir: Females are 2X!!! Great!! And males always question “Y” this “X”? That is what they are doing by killing girl child, raping girls and commuting all kinds of crimes. It is just because of the “Y”

Umesh Gaud: I am of one opinion that no one is greater. Both are equal. Created by One God. And God has made both with some specific features, specific purposes. And there should be no comparison between the two.Can a mother alone produce a child? I don’t think it would be possible.

Shobhita Sharma:I agree that both are equal. But only a mother has the capacity to produce a child. And that is what XX and XY differential means. In many of the animals X only has the capacity to turn into Y.

[ Everyone knows that women have two X chromosomes, while men have just one.  Instead of a second X, men have a Y chromosome. The X chromosome is far larger than Y, with 1098 genes versus just 27 genes that are unique to the Y chromosome.

Well, one might argue, men have all the X chromosome genes too, so what's the advantage to having an extra copy?  It seems that we only need one copy of each of these 1098 X genes.

As it turns out, female mammals (not just humans) have a unique advantage over males: they get to choose, for each copy of those 1098 genes, which one to use.  And they can pick and choose different ones along the chromosome, sometimes using the gene (called an allele) from their own mother, other times using the allele from their father.  The other copy is turned off, through a remarkable process called X inactivation.

The female advantage is more than just the choice of which X chromosome to use.  An amazing feature of genetics is that females can use different genes in different cells.  The calico cat  is a beautiful illustration of this: early in development, some of the pigment cells in this cat chose the orange fur gene, while other cells chose the black fur gene.  As these cells divided, they created patches of black and orange fur.  As far as anyone can tell, these choices are random, which is why every calico cat has a different pattern of black and orange fur.

It's also why every calico cat is female.

So there you have it: women have over 1000 genes for which they have two choices, while men are stuck with a single X chromosome.  Quite an advantage... ] (THE SOURCE www.forbes.com; 1098 reason why women are genetically superior to men)

Bhavini Dubey: It is very much the capacity of a female reproductive cell to undergo cell division in a manner as to make a complete individual. Only in few species in nature it is seen that we have two parents. Many species have single parent and through mutation alone do genes express variation. The X chromosome fits better in survival of the fittest theory and hence has more active genes. The Y on the other hand has lesser active genes and lesser number of base pairs . Even when observed under a microscope, the length of Y can be seen to be shorter than X.

Umesh Gaud: This is true for some male species also. These are different ways of IE’s creation. Production is seen even when there is no question of X or Y. E.g. An Ameoba, a single cell species , reproduces by dividing itself into two. There is no need of mother X in this case.

IE can do anything by anyway. Many times it is also seen that IE produces new species from air and water, irrespective of the need of X and Y.

Vivek Sir:  What is the meaning of the following shloka?

चातुर्वर्ण्यं मया सृष्टं गुणकर्मविभागश:।

तस्य कर्तारमपि मां विद्ध्यकर्तारमव्ययम्॥

What is“Varna”?

Bhavini Dubey: I have divided the people into four categories according to their “Gunakarma”. Guna means a binding sequence of traits and karma means a neuronic chain or neurons. Together they mean a chain of traits expressed as Response System. That means Intelligent Energy has graded people according to their capacities. That means somebody is a king, some a warrior, a businessman and so on.

IE has created inequality with a purpose. In which one is higher and the other is lower. But essentially in the spirit they are the same stuff. They are all equal as they have come from IE but functionally they are unequal. That means the X and Y.

Functional difference is represented by X and Y chromosomes. Nature shows two rules:

  • Survival of the fittest
  • Division of labor

Gunjan Patel:Intelligent Energy has created the differences with a purpose. This is rightly so and absolutely scientific because only as long as the differences exist so we have the flow of IE. The current flows from higher potential to lower potential and IE manifests in proportion to the differences everywhere.

Moreover, Krishna has also said to abide by Dharma which is most natural to you. This means that only the natural Dharma suits one the best. This also points out that there is a unique Dharma for everyone which makes him/her special and treads ahead the path to reach IE. If all paths reach the same goal, there is no inequality. Only IE can be amazingly intelligent enough to bring this equality amidst all differences.

X and Y may seem different with reference to their functions but they are similar with reference to their purpose.

Manoj Gaur:I agree with Gunjan. Both pulling and pushing are great. That is, both the activities are good as per requirement. X and Y are simply different to satisfy different purposes.

Vivek Sir: Nature has functional variety. X is constant. All males have X with Y. That which is constant is also dominant. There is no YY make. God’s variety has a functional hierarchy.  Bhavini and Gunjan have explained it well.

Krishna says in Bhagvad Gita: ममैवांशो जीवलोके जीवभूत: सनातन:.. which means “My part has become Jeeva in the world…” So there cannot be any differentiation from Him. Bhagwan Ramkrishna forbade some and asked some to read a particular book. He was partial in this sense though God is said to be impartial, a samdrishta….this is so because God has created gradations and treats them accordingly. God hasn’t created all equal. On the same note, one can’t say that women , who have XX, are no carriers of the father’s Y. Because they can manufacture the Y from their X anytime. In fact th male Y comes from the female’s X only. X is a complete carrier in itself.Y is just its creative distortion for a purpose. This variety has a functional hierarchy. We can’t underestimate the XX bearers. They have all in them…Science is yet to prove it…Think!!!!.
