Will is the act of intellect!

Where there is will there is a way,  say the youngsters interviewed by Somya Tripathi for krrisha.com. Majority of them rightly hint that there is a difference among wish, desire and will. But, let’s get a little deeper.

What is will
It is called धृति in Sanskrit. Let me give you a little technical aspect of this. It is the act of intellect and its bearer is the mind. The intellect resolves a suggestion from within or without and triggers the brain into the executive mode. Once it is triggered into the executive mode, the mind, which bears the resolved or determined or decisive energy, transmits it down the system. All your sensory system then becomes the instrument of the will and your body becomes its vehicle. Result: The executive energy flows to the object to be achieved without hindrance. This energy can change the body mind system and the situations.
According to Krishna, the best will is the purest, incorruptible form of energy, which immediately aligns the mind, senses and action in its direction—धृत्या यया धारयते मन:प्राणेन्द्रियक्रिया It is desire when it is tuned to achieving four objects of life—idea, meaning, enjoyment and then getting rid of them. Wish is just a prayer —the idea kept in the mind, it doesn’t activate mind, senses and the body into action.
The will which triggers bad dreams, fears and depression is the result of the intellect with a negative intent or drive. It brings into reality the negativity one cherishes.

If you have pure intellect, you will have pure will and purest actions and purest results. The moment your intellect gets alloyed resolution, you mind bears that and transmits it to the entire system. What comes then is mixed, alloyed results. What is the pure intellect? It is the  execute state of the brain, where you are ready to shoot energy into action ( refer to Beejankuri).  But, mind you! You are born with desire. It has to be refined into will and not let it be alloyed with sensory inputs and degenerate as lust or greed.

Will Power is the only thing that makes you strive for what you want to achieve. It is something which you don't or rather can't obtain from anyone , not even from your parents. It  is an  inborn in an individual. It is a very famous misconception that if a person is not able to strive for something that means he/she has no will power, rather the absolute cause for him/her to act that way is that his/her will power is strongly taking him/her in the other way.

Yes, will definitely is different from wish or desire.

Wish or desire are the things you want to happen and Will on the other hand is the path for you to make them happen. Even if there is no path, Will is the source, the tool through which you can carve your path to make something happen that you desire.

I do believe when there is will then there is a way, if there is not a way then a strong will can make a better way out of the haphazard conditions or situations.

Inference: Will power is the only thing that makes you strive for what you want to achieve. Will differs from wish and desire, Will is the path while wish and desire are things that happen. I believe strong will makes the way.

Will power for me is a hidden power or ability in one that allows one to do something difficult. Wish and will are almost similar but will denotes simplicity; where as desire somewhat denotes greed .

Yes, we can say that if you will to do something you might find way and get success but we should never desire or worry for the result as fruit of our work is in God's hand, so it's good to will to do something but it's not in your hands to find the way

(कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन |

मा कर्मफलहेतुर्भूर्मा ते सङ्गोऽस्त्वकर्मणि || )

Inference: Will is the power/ability that allows one to do something difficult. Wish and will are similar but desire originates from greed. Will carves the way and the fruit of action is in God’s hands.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Atharv Patil

Will power refers to the determination of completing a certain task. It is the strength or character of a person.

Yes, will does differ from wish and desire in the sense that a wish can remain a wish or a simple desire until you have the will power of achieving that wish or desire. Yes, I do believe in the saying because will power is the psychological firmness of your purpose. And when you’re firm about your purpose, you can achieve your purpose.

Inference: Will denotes the character strength of a person. Will makes one achieve their wish or desire. Will is the psychological firmness towards one’s goals.

Will power is the power to control your temptations and focus on your goal, it is a way of self-control.

Will is goal oriented desire— it develops a passion in the person to achieve it; whereas a wish is an aspiration which is mostly defined by our emotions. Desires are more of craving of a will or wish.

Yes I do believe in the aforesaid saying, because our passion to achieve the goal, our will help us shape the path.

Inference: Will is the self-control that one observes while on the path of achieving goals. Will is goal-oriented desire.  Will shapes the path.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Riya Tripathi

Will power is a set of controlled behaviour in order to achieve something or some status.

Will has always differed from wish & desire because will comes through wisdom & righteousness, where wish & desire are simple wants to be fulfilled.

Will is strong behavioural aspect or a determined state of a person to overcome any obstacles, it goes hand in hand with hope to become a better being. Will is always backed by hope.

Inference: Will is a controlled set of behaviour in order to make an achievement. Will differs from wish and desire, it originated from righteousness. Will is strong behavioural aspect or determined state of a person.

                                                                      Tejas Tripathi

Will power means the desire to get anything or ability in you to achieve or get something.

Will is developed by your own to get something good where as desire is a kind of greed to get something.

As said necessity is the mother of invention the same way until and unless you do not will or try to do something you will never be able to achieve it so it's necessary to keep on trying.

Inference: Will power is the ability to achieve. Will originates out of good intention while desire from greed. Will yields results when one keeps persistently trying.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  Neelam Patil

Compiled by Somya Tripathi

Willpower is the ability to resist temptations in order to meet long-term goals or in a philosophical sense, we can call it self-control. I would rather say will assists in fulfilling our wishes and desires. In this world nothing is obtained without willpower. The core strength of our will is important for any achievement in life. The saying “where there is will, there is a way” helps my point above as well as is a true fact. One need’s to believe in oneself and their willpower , even if there isn't an instant results there will be if one works needlessly.
