Negative Prayer!

Negative prayers? Curse? What are they?

By Vivek Sharma

There have been recurring queries as to whether there is something called negative prayer! It is an amazing question as it only shows how very deeply the weakness of the mind has set in us.

How can a prayer be negative? Prayer is what connects you to God. How can you connect with Him and at the same time wish ill for others—probably that is what you mean by negative prayer.
Of course, there are negative actions. You may have nasty thoughts about somebody. You may act against somebody negatively. You may conspire and make other act against somebody negatively. Well, if I believe in what you indicate at, you may do all that mumbo-jumbo to destroy others , but, all of them are actions and not prayers.

It Hurts You First

Every action has consequences. If you throw a ball of fire at somebody, a part of you is sure to be burnt as you are holding that fire and what if you miss the target? Ha-ha-ha, it will be a big waste of time and energy. The ball of fire will first burn you and if the target is an expert, he will wait for the fire ball to return to you million times bigger in the form of Natural consequences. Well, if you try to destroy somebody out of jealousy, anger and arrogance, you are sure to be thrown away into nasty conditions. That is what Krishna says in Discourse 16. But, people will just read that shloka and won’t care about getting deeper into it and then ask silly questions. No ill intended! Now understand it with a broader example. Nature empowers Arjuna to kill Duryodhan and his supporters who usurped the Pandavas’ throne and kingdom out of jealousy, arrogance and anger. But, She doesn’t empower Duryodhan to kill Arjuna. Why? Because, Krishna says you hurt me in yourself and others if you hurt somebody out of jealousy, anger, pride and lust. What happens then? Krishna says ‘I throw, such jealous, cruel and low minds into negative situations time and again.’ Actually, He has explained everything through it. You cannot save yourself from the consequences of negative actions. No way. And it is not that you will face them in the next birth. You begin to face it here and now. Your body, family, associations etc become the embodiment of negative consequences. They suffer and make you suffer, the way you made others suffer. You may put up a bold face and say nothing of this sort. But, in the heart of hearts you know, you have damaged yourself.
Always remember! There is nothing like negative prayer. Yes, there are negative actions—-thoughts and deeds. And one has to face the consequences of all actions. Nature runs on a simple principle—whatever you do returns to you multiplied million times.

Curse is Nature’s Return

A curse from a victim of arrogance and cruelty is in line with Krishna’s words ‘I throw, such jealous, cruel and low minds into negative situations time and again.’ Curse is a genuine return of consequences from God, Nature and not the person. The person is just the medium to bring upon the perpetrator the wrath of God, as they say. But, it doesn’t work for the person who moves around cursing everybody, striking fears in every mind. It is no curse then—it is just a jealous, angry reaction born of arrogance. It is again a negative action. Often, a curse is an unspoken reality. Only the one who faces it knows it and why it is happening with him/her and the family. There is no way you can save yourself from it unless you correct your actions and repent to God for your misdeeds. If your cry is genuine then Nature may mitigate, dissipate or alleviate it. But, no amount of arrogant bravery—anushthaans to get out of God-send situations without repenting, can help you out of it. So, it is better not to hurt anybody out of pride, arrogance and jealousy. There are some people who say negative people always win. No. They lose in many other terms, which they hide from you. Nature is simple and straight. Don’t you see, how Covid-19 has disciplined you all. Some who despised and behaved arrogantly with their parents are now realising that during these times, it won’t have been possible for them to survive had their parents been not getting pension. Ha-ha-ha….Don’t ever play with Nature. Buddha warned against it. Christ warned against it. Mohammad too warned against it. Needless to say about Krishna and Ram. So better learn from their warnings of the wise if it is not yet late.
