Demolish the vertical mindset first, says Krishna

By Vivek Sharma

You cannot have  healthy organisational setups unless you change your vertical mindset and give way to the cooperatively centric thoughts and systems in your life.
Krishna has declared it in the Bhagwad Gita loud and clear. But, for the reasons best known to the interpreters, none has really brought such facts out the way they should have been—no ill intended. It is time to demolish verticals and get oriented centrically. Krishna even says that the one who doesn’t get into the centric system, which is a replica of the cosmic one, lives and works in vain. Look around and you will find stories of success turning into tales of failure after some time. Be objective and you shall find it everywhere. The greats fall as ordinaries and the ordinaries rise as greats only to fall along the lines of verticals.
Verticals are created by man and not Intelligent Energy, Krishna has made it amply clear during His discourse to Arjuna.

Living Vertical Myth

We have been living myths for ages. Actions make the world, there are the leaders and the led, the hunters and the hunted, the haves and the have-nots….go on and on and you shall find many such impressive verticals to explain away your reason to be worldly-wise—being corrupt in the name of being practical and blindly following what is happening in the world!
Yes, the most popular one is—everybody is bound by his destiny! Wow! The destiny is the rule, a leash which binds you. What an example to live the way you are living without a worry about evolving, dominating your destiny and leading it in the direction it should head.

What we really believe in is exactly what is happening all around us— in the families, organisations and the world that we live in. The world that we philosophically define as the outcome of human actions—where one is the doer, the other done and consequences emanating thereof governing us all. We have created our own confining walls.

The Leaders Vs the Led

Well, when you are unable to decide for yourself, act for yourself, you find a person who you follow blindly as you believe that he knows the way. That very moment you create a vertical, confine yourself to the role of the led and raise the other person as the leader. You being somewhere lower in the vertical and the leader up there somewhere. If you closely analyse, you will find that a leader is nobody but the one who believes he does things which make a difference. The hunter believes that he hunts. The king believes that without him the subjects and society shall go to ruins. The owner of an organisation believes without him, the workers can’t survive and the organisation shall go to ruins.
These are myths of vertical thinking. We are always thinking in terms of top-bottom, higher-lower, big-small. We can’t think without these verticals, which may be opposites! Can we? Try and think for a while without them. As long as we have this vertical limitation, our brains cannot go beyond a certain range. Look around and see what difference all these leaders have made in the world. A big zero. Christ came. Christianity got stuck in the verticals.Mohammad came. Islam got stuck in the verticals. Sanatan is one thought which defies the verticals and stays as it is. Of course, some of its break-away belief systems got stuck in the verticals—Hinduism, buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism and what not.

Ok tell me what difference have all these leaders made except creating a matrix of verticals! Vertical thinking and systems are regressive in nature. They are degenerative, they are against the plan of Nature. Nature follows circularity or sphericality, like that of the solar system, the galaxies and all.
Unless we grow out of this matrix of verticals we cannot really progress individually, socially and institutionally.

Vertical Standards

Anything  high ought to be mighty, anything low is without doubt down market. Anything bigger is better, anything smaller is not better. All of you have buried yourself under the piles of verticals—we are like Bheeshma sleeping on the arrow bed of verticals. That is why I say we are living a myth. There is nothing vertical in reality. The cosmos has spiral, circularity, sphericality which is arranged around a centre. The atom has a nucleus. The electrons are arranged around it the same way planets are arranged around the sun. This is called swabhav in Sanskrit. It can be crudely translated into English as natural, cosmic, universal plan of energy expansion.

Krishna says in Discourse 5, shloka 14,
न कर्तृत्वं न कर्माणि लोकस्य सृजति प्रभु:।
न कर्मफलसंयोगं स्वभावस्तु  प्रवर्तते।।
Now, for the time being just understand the shloka through its words and meanings. कर्तृत्वं means doer-ship, I do it, subject, ego, ownership. कर्माणि what is done, actions, objects.  प्रभु: means which radiates energy like the sun, powerful, the Creator, who is at the centre of His expanding radial dimensions. कर्मफलसंयोगं means combination of cause and effect, result, outcome, destiny. स्वभाव: means cosmic plan, universal principle, cosmic expansion of radiating Intelligent Energy.  प्रवर्तते means enforced, is prevailing, going on expanding in circles like  the energy of the sun is prevailing everywhere.
Here, the shloka means—The Radiating Reality has not created doer-ship, actions or the combination of the cause and effect, actually the radiant expansion is prevailing all around (in the world, universe, body, institution, family)—but we know it not. What is doer-ship? It is a vertical. The doer is considered more capable and powerful than others in the man-made systems. He sits atop a vertical. What is action? It is a vertical. It can be good, bad, high and low in the man-made systems. Cause and effect is another vertical. Where a higher cause promises a higher consequences and lower  cause lower consequences in the man-made systems. Intelligent Energy has not created the verticals. She has planned everything in an expanding circularity around a centre. However, man, according to his understanding, through doer-ship, actions and consequences, has created all these verticals, which are bound to collapse under the wheel of circularity. That is the reason why these verticals keep falling, standards keep collapsing, thinking keeps collapsing….. It is just because Nature is pushing us towards a more circular, centric system of co-existence. The moment we reorganise and re-orient  ourselves to Her plan, we shall become more cooperative, prosperous and infinitely capable that very moment. Our social structures then shall be more stable, organisations more productive and human interactions highly cooperative. In such a system humans would not hang themselves up on the self-created verticals to eventually drop dead.

Krishna Rejects Verticals

In the very next shloka of the discourse, Krishna says :
नादत्ते कस्यचित्पापं न चैव सुकृतं विभुः।
अज्ञानेनावृतं ज्ञानं तेन मुह्यन्ति जन्तवः।।
Let us understand the words used here.
नादत्ते means receives not, accepts not— rejects. कस्यचित्पापं न चैव सुकृतं negative, low action of somebody to high and noble ones. विभुः the firm reality at the centre of creation, compare it with प्रभु:.
अज्ञानेनावृतं ज्ञानं anti-knowledge is covering up the right knowledge . तेन मुह्यन्ति जन्तवः which is deluding the mankind.
It means—The prevalent circularity rejects all verticals like good actions and bad actions but the mankind is deluded by this self-created verticality as anti-knowledge surrounds their wisdom. What is this anti-knowledge? Anti-knowledge and knowledge again make a vertical. This is the basic layout of the vertical thinking of mankind, which is delusive.

How To Get Rid of It

Krishna says unless the basic format is changed, the verticals are here to stay and humans and their systems shall continue to suffer, collapse and demolish. But, the moment real knowledge prevails over the anti-knowledge, the basic verticality is demolished and the knowledge then shines like the sun shines at the centre of the solar system
(ज्ञानेन तु तदज्ञानं येषां नाशितमात्मनः।
तेषामादित्यवज्ज्ञानं प्रकाशयति तत्परम्).
Its light keeps expanding the circularity far and wide and beyond. There is need for everybody to stop thinking in verticals. Go centric. The moment this cosmic arrangement is achieved within, the entire world around and within is rearranged to the cosmic format of productive cooperation.
Krishna clearly says in Discourse 3, shloka 16.
The one who doesn’t follow (नानुवर्यतीह) the cooperatively centric system (एवं प्रवर्त्तितं चक्रं), wastefully uses his sensory system —uses intellect, mind, senses and the body as a vertical (अघायुरिन्द्रियारामो). He lives in the world with falsity, O Parth ( मोघं पार्थ  जीवति). Think!
