Learn From The Leaf

Why this arrogance? You are no better than a leaf

By Vivek Sharma

What is the difference between you and the leaf? It is only a simple you.
You have a backbone, it has a midrib. You have a network of blood veins, arteries and nerves and it has a simplified network to perform all such functions through one network called veins. You are holding all your parts functionally together through these network, a leaf holds its shape together through this network.
You are connected with your family and associations through emotional conduits (complex sensory system) which ensure bi-way flow of energy, a leaf connects to its family tree through a simplified conduit of energy called petiole. The petiole has tubes which convey food energy to the stem and water from the stem to the leaf. This is the bi-way bond—the give-n-take system, the cooperative arrangement between an individual and its family. It is more simplified and hence more honest than what we have.
You earn food for yourself and your family, the same way a leaf earns food for itself and its family tree. It directly depends upon the sun for energy and uses a simple method to convert the same to nourish its family and the system. We too consume converted sun energy. We don’t convert it directly within our system but acquire it pre-converted from outside as fruits and grains and then convert it further to various forms of energy we require in to sustain our system. It is no doubt a complex process, because we have developed it all by ourselves through the rigamarole of cyclic repetition—birth-memory-ego- death-birth-memory-ego-death… because we have refused to understand the simplicity of it all. Our experiences condensed as memories and their ownership—  ego- have made it complex.
A leaf turns pale and falls off its family tree. It either gets consumed by the jungle fire or gets buried and becomes a manure. The same way at death, our body turns lifeless and falls on the ground. It is either burnt or buried in the earth.

Learn From Leaf

There is no difference between a complex you and a simple you as a leaf. Learn simplicity from a leaf. It doesn’t stay after it has served the purpose. What is the purpose? It is to play its role in serving the tree of creation through cooperative actions, called yagya or yoga by Krishna. What after the role has been played? The leaf separates from the tree as a form only and itself gets absorbed in the tree of creation as its sustaining energy—it becomes the energy of the tree. The same way yogis do—they drop their bodies after serving the creation and become its sustaining energy. Some even choose palish saffron wear to pledge to go by the cosmic plan—they call themselves Sannyasis. We shall take it up some other time. Let’s see what Krishna says about a leaf of life.
 He says
 छन्दांसि यस्य पर्णानि यस्तं वेद स वेदवित्।। 1/15
It meansThe entire creation is like a peepal tree. Its leaves are its representative micro-structure (छन्द), the one who knows this he alone knows the entire creation and its purpose fully (स वेदवित्).
Whatever I have detailed in the blog is nothing but an elaboration of this beautiful scientific principle—the leaf represents the entire creation with simplicity.  The leaf in the brain is neurone. Read my book, Beejankuri: The Seed of Bhagwad Gita for more elaboration. Be simple. Be like a leaf.
