Jayadrath

Beware! Jayadrath may kidnap your Draupadi

He is the king of Sindh and is called Saindhav. Saindhav is a very close friend of Duryodhan. Duryodhan had married his only sister Dushalaa to him.  Jayadrath is very uncivil. He follows no codes of conduct. He kidnaps Draupadi, while the Pandavas are in the exile, from the Ashrama when she turns down his offer of marriage—which is more of a forced one-night-stay kind of proposition. This happens when the Pandavas are away in the jungle to collect firewood and grass for the daily yagya, leaving Draupadi under the watch of sage Trinabindu. Draupadi’s friend Daatreyika informs the Pandavas about the incident. The Pandavas chase Jayadrath, defeat him, catch him and shave his head as a punishment after Draupadi intervenes and pleads them for sparing his life as his death would leave their only sister Dushalaa widow. However, Jayadrath joins the battle of Mahabharata against the Pandavas on Duryodhan’s side. He puts up a tough fight and blocks the Pandavas’ invasion for a day. Arjuna pledges to kill Jayadrath before sunset to avenge his son Abhimanyu’s killing. Failing which, he vows to kill himself by jumping into the pyre. However, Jayadrath goes into hiding to escape Arjuna’s wrath. Krishna hides the sun with his Sudarshan chakra. The Kauravas rejoice as they think Arjuna has failed in his pledge. Jayadrath comes out of the hiding. But, soon Krishna removes his chakra from the sun which is yet to set. Finding the opportunity, Arjuna beheads Jayadrath with his Pashupatastra on the 14th day of the battle.

Real import
But, this is history. Jayadrath in Sanskrit means the one who has complete victory over body (Rath). He is a close friend of Duryodhan (Lust-anger) and is uncivil. He is also called Saindhav, which means the king of Sindh. The word Saindhav has been derived from the word SindhuSindhu means “ sexual intoxication caused by spermatogenesis in an elephant.” Therefore, Jayadrath is “sexual impulse” in our body mind system. An elephant symbolises mind or brain.  A sexual impulse is irresistible and forces you to break all codes of conduct. It generates in the mind and takes over the entire body.

Draupadi’s kidnapper
That is why Jayadrath is shown as kidnapping Draupadi, the coiled up power in you. It means the sexual impulse can kidnap your spiritual energy, so beware! A sexual impulse is so dominant that it drives your body-mind and senses along the line of its movement and hence it is referred to as Jayadrath (the one who/which has complete victory over body). Sexual impulse is married to Dushalaa, sister of Duryodhan. Dushalaa in Sanskrit means “a female who is hard (duh ) to please sexually.” Shaal is also called prostitute in Sanskrit. The word has been derived from the root Shal, which means “to fulfil, to please sexually or through praise.” Duh means hard. Therefore, the woman who is hard to please sexually is Dushalaa. She is married to sexual impulse, which means she is hard to please as she experiences constant sexual impulse. The Pandavas first arrest Jayadrath, punish him and leave him alive at the request of Druapadi. This means the spiritual power doesn’t mean the death of the sexual impulse, but commands its discipline in the form of punishment by the Pandavas. The Pandavas shave Jayadrath’s head and leave five tufts as a reminder of their might. That means  your Yudhisthir, Bheem, Arjuna, Nakul and Sahadeva can discipline the kidnapper sexual impulse. However, Jayadrath hides when the chitta shakti (Arjuna) resolves to kill the impulse. Arjuna is helped by Krishna in his endeavour and the sexual impulse is beheaded on the 14th day of the battle. Jayadrath is always active when it is dark—outside and inside both. That is why he comes out when Krishna hides the sun with his Sudarshan chakra.

Jayadrath-Dushalaa on walls
There are many temples in India where you will find sexual postures displayed on the outer walls of the temple near the entrance gates.  Khajurao Temple in Madhya Pradesh, Surya Temple in Gujarat, Sun Temple of Konark, Ranakpur in Rajasthan, Kailasa in Ellora, Tripurantak Temple in Karnataka, Virupaksha in Hampi, Osian in Rajasthan, Padawali in Madhya Pradesh, Markandeshwar in Maharashtra and many more. They all depict Jayadrath and Dushalaa in all their permutation and combinations. But, once you enter the temple you feel a highly spiritual environment.
Why is this so? In fact, there is a great science behind it. Jayadrath and Dushalaa depict two modes of sexual dominance—impulse generation and its execution respectively. The impulse is generated from the mind down to the organs of execution. This downward movement is called sexual impulse which is too dominant for an ordinary person to handle. Therefore, Dushalaa is there. Dushalaa represents execution of that impulse. The entire act signifies one scientific fact—the sexual impulse generates in you a raw energy store, which may rob you of your Draupadi. Jayadrath always hides. But, when he is depicted on the walls with Dushalaa, it helps Arjuna and Krishna in you to behead it. Once beheaded, your Draupadi converts the stored up energy into spiritual power (ojas). Draupadi represents the reverse direction—from down to up towards the brain (opposite of Jayadrath). Ojas is stored up in the brain. For a common man,  the same conversion happens when he enters the temple and faces the deity. That energy moves up and stores up in the brain. There is no greater prasadam (from the deity)  than  a gift of ojas, which is responsible for good health, wealth and environment. The pictures on the walls convey a full execution and not a half picture. The mind stores up the image of execution and hence feels relieved that moment. However, the energy (mad) is stored up in the process for Draupadi (inside the temple) to refine and dissolve it into ojas. (not allowed to elaborate further).

Takeaway: Don’t let uncivil Jayadrath take over, if you want a healthy life and society. Remember! Jayadrath is a friend of Duryodhan and husband of Dushalaa. He can only be beheaded with the help of Krishna and Arjuna in you. Jayadrath is a major hurdle in your spiritual journey as he has the capacity to kidnap your Draupadi (spiritual power). So beware! He is mad ( intoxication— the rood Sanskrit word from which has come the English word mad = insane). He can only be handled with the help of your fiery resolve (Arjuna) and Madan  — the Sanskrit synonym of Krishna.
