Chitrasen

He is your creative wave of energy. Mind it!

He is the king of Gandharva, who taught Arjuna music and dance during the Agyatvas. He resides in the palace of the Indra and soon he becomes a good friend of Arjuna. During a pre-Mahabharata battle, he   defeats Duryodhan and keeps him captive. Later, at Yudhishthir’s request, he lets Duryodhan go. But, feeling humiliated thereafter, Duryodhan tries to commit suicide. However, it is averted.  During Arjuna’s stay in Indra’s palace, Chitrasen saves him from the curse of Urvashi who spells Arjuna into impotence for whole life for not having sex with her. But, Chitrasen intervenes and gets the curse curtailed to one year.  Chitrasen is also known as Chitrarath, who Krishna calls in Chapter 10 of the Gita, His very Self. Even the mighty Karna runs away from his attacks.

The Real Import
Chitrasen or Chitrarath in Sanskrit means a ‘surprising creative current of energy”. Chitra means surprising and rath also means the creative current of energy. This creative current of energy resides in the place of Indra. That is the region of the mind which controls the senses. This creative current of energy is the king of Gandharva —gandh means scent and arva means horse. Horse represents energy in the Sanatandharma. Therefore, Gandharvas are those who ride energy like horses and spread their influence like a dominating whiff of a scent. Chitrarath is the surprisingly powerful creative current which travels as fast as a scent—atomically fast. It resides in the mind. Therefore, Chitrarath is a dominant creative current which trains Arjuna, the chitta complex, into dance and music—rhythm and melody—another two qualities of the creative energy. Rhythm teaches you the sense of timing in everything you do—like in a dance or martial arts. And melody, which runs on seven vibratory ladders of sa, re, ga,… .  in the backbone. Yogis call them the seven chakras. However, this creative wave of energy makes you very powerful.

Duryodhan’s arrest and defeat
This creative wave is so strong that it converts all physical energy into spiritual powers and Duryodhan (lust-anger) then remains confined to the seed form—arrested. The Kauravas approach Yudhisthir and request Duryodhan’s release. Yudhisthir, as everybody knows, asks the Pandava brothers to ensure Duryodhan’s release. Duryodhan is released from the creative energy wave’s cage. However, Duryodhan comes to know his powerlessness and wishes to commit suicide. That is what creative energy does. It renders all lust-anger ineffective, weak and powerless—to the extent that it seeks to dissolve itself.

Urvashi’s curse
Urvashi is the enchantress in Indra’s palace. The very name means the one who has the capacity to drag even the mighty hearts into her charm. She is the enchanting wave which misleads an aspirant into sliding down into a sexual act. However, Arjuna refuses her prompts, as he was then a student of the creative energy. She curses  him with life-long impotence in rage. However, creative energy intervenes and nullifies the impact of the curse to one year.  This is a very subtle episode. I can only give you a superficial view of it—as it cannot be understood by those who have not reached that level of experience. It means your creative energy converts all energy into spiritual energy. Urvashi fails to charm the spiritual seeker then. This is a stage where sexual drive is fully gone, as if you have become a eunuch. However, within a span of 12 months, your creative energy replaces the sexual drive and then you begin to have  creative sexual drives —not  of physical union, but of divine union. Ramkrishna Paramhamsa used to have this creative ecstasy, which had no traces of carnal desires. It is a purified orgasmic joy, which lifts you up to the last musical note ni instead of bringing you down  to the base note! Ha ha haha.  In a nutshell, the surprising wave of creative energy converts all carnal images stored up in your memory into divine. Therefore, this is where the divine takes over. Krishna becomes your energy channels, divine sage Narad (Krishna) becomes your senses, Chitrarath (Krishna)  becomes your mind,  and you become as perfect as Kapila muni (Krishna Himself). This is the import of the shloka 26 of Chapter 10 of the Gita. We will take up some other time.

Takeaway: The only way you can defeat Duryodhan is with the help of Chitrarath—the surprising creative wave of energy.
